Hedge End Twinning Association Recent Events

5-6 April 2008 - Visit to Comines, France. The first port of call was the beer and wine distributorship for free samples, nibbles, and a chance to buy a little 'souvenir' to take home. Then it was to the home of individual hosts for lunch and sightseeing. The evening started with pizza in the Salle des Fêtes and finished with dancing in the Club Carlton near Ypres. Sunday morning was free for sightseeing followed by lunch, and then departure. 5-6 July 2008 - Hosting visitors from Comines, France and Comines-Warneton, Belgium. They were treated to a hot lunch in the Hedge End Village Hall and then participated in the Hedge End Carnival, winning first place in their class. In the evening, we took them to the Phoenix Inn in Twyford for a skittles evening. Sunday morning saw us braving the pouring rain on a Blue Funnel boat tour of Southampton Harbour (fortunately we were inside!). Sunday lunch was at The Cricketers in Curbridge, followed by their all-too-soon departure. 2 September 2008 Annual General Meeting. After a lengthy discussion during which closure of the organisation due to lack of interest both in Hedge End and in Comines was discussed, the chairman proposed that we carry on for at least one more year. All members present were in favour.
