Comines-Warneton is located in the Belgian province of Hainaut. Comines-Warneton is a French-speaking enclave surrounded by Flemish-speaking territory. The population of Comines-Warneton is approximately 18,000. The official charter establishing the twinning link with Comines-Warneton was signed in 1994.

To the south, across the River Lys, is France, containing the town of Comines, population approximately 17,000, with which Hedge End also has close links.
